Public Records Act Requests

The Office of the Fire Marshal operates under contract with CAL FIRE. Under that arrangement, California Public Records Act requests for Fire Marshal records are submitted to and processed through CAL FIRE.

To request records, please click the link below:
CAL FIRE - California Public Records

From that page you can submit and track a request through CAL FIRE's online records portal, or follow the mailing instructions provided there. Records are released under the California Public Records Act (Gov. Code §§7920.000 et seq.); you do not need to state a reason or show identification to inspect records.

To help route your request to the right records, include the property address, permit or incident number, approximate dates, and the type of document you need (for example, a fire inspection report, permit file, or plan-review letter).

Records held by other agencies should be requested from that agency.
